about

The chill of lockdown; empty streets, empty beaches, everything slowing down. All in a good cause, but hard sometimes to find our own place in the silence, the loneliness. Written during the 2020 lockdown in Aotearoa New Zealand.

lyrics

Waves breaking empty upon the shore
Bird crying lonely far above the roar
Here we walk and here we wait
Early morning, evening late
Footsteps fading with the tide of our fate

On the horizon ships sail away
Clouds in a grey sky pass through ev’ry day
Though the purpose seems so clear
It can’t touch us standing here
Lonely on this beach of sand, grey and bare
